About

Cultivating a Culture of Stewardship & Sustainability

VISION

To transform culture through community mobilization, connection with nature, cultivation of a stewardship ethic, education of organizational leaders, and an essential philosophy of biophilia and eco-literacy focused on kindness, love, joy, and gratitude for life on Earth.

MISSION

We empower communities through direct action to care for soil, water, trees, and ecosystems, to mobilize global sustainability, and to inspire the day-to-day practices at the heart of health, well-being, and the stewardship of our planetary biosphere.

ACTION

We regenerate and build soil. We plant trees. We reverse climate change through life
style transformation and community-enriching action. We cultivate health and well-being. We detoxify our world. We engage market economies. We transform culture.

We have fun. We cultivate the fabric of healthy community. We regenerate the soil upon which all human life depends. We celebrate in regular, joy-filled, action-oriented gatherings and celebrations. This massive mobilization is accomplished via both innovative multi-media assets (instructional videos, "Stewardship & Sustainability" Podcast episodes), and via in-person gatherings, meet-ups and action-oriented events.

Mobilizing Stewardship & Sustainability from the Ground Up.

WHO

The Y on Earth Community is a growing network of neighborhoods, communities and ambassadors who build soil through biodynamic soil activation, plant climate-appropriate trees, and improve the sustainability of air, water, land, and people through direct-action activities and community gatherings.

A growing network of humble heroes helping to heal the world.

THEORY OF CHANGE

The human species shares a single home, Mother Earth. This can be best understood as our common spaceship – one whose life-support systems have been robust and reliable during most of the entire time human beings (homo sapiens) have lived here. Now, in the Age of the Anthropocene, during which we humans are having such a profound impact on the Earth, that we’ve disrupted her life-support systems, we are at a cross-roads. We humans are at the most profound inflection point our species has yet encountered – our very existence, ability to thrive, and maintenance of civilization is now at stake.

The actions, decisions, and willful intent to change that we each make now and every remaining day in our lifetime, will determine the fate of our species’ future. We have a choice to make. We can heal, grow, and learn to practice the beautiful arts and sciences of stewardship, regeneration and sustainability – in harmony with the living biosphere. All of our tools, all of our technology, all of our propensity to innovate is eclipsed in importance by the softer aspects of our culture: the ethos, the philosophy, the values systems upon which we choose to build our systems, and with which we choose to create our culture. This is about love, humility, and a profound desire to live in the reality of the super-abundant planet Earth. Our only spaceship. All else is secondary.

In these times, the mega-machine of consumer economics has failed us: spiritually, materially, and emotionally. We need something else. We need community. We need direct participation in human-scale solutions. We need simple stewardship knowledge. We need to come together in groups of friends and colleagues, and make a difference. We need to help each other cultivate the tools of self-discipline, of self-care, and of leadership that will transform our culture… from the inside out. We need all of this on a regular basis. We need soil stewardship, tree-planting, gardens, thoughtful consumer demand, and activated communities.

The Y on Earth Community is mobilizing this now. A growing network of committed people from all backgrounds, levels of education, expertise, faiths, and socio-economic status, we are massively scaling the locations, frequencies, impacts, and outcomes of humble community-based actions and activities.

We are massively mobilizing stewardship and sustainability… together.
